- PublicaciónAcceso abiertoFuncionamiento familiar y autoconcepto de los alumnos del sexto grado de las instituciones educativas de la Red 8 Callao(Universidad San Ignacio de Loyola, 2012) Chuquillanqui Portocarrero, Irma Solange; Meza Borja, Juan AnibalThe present investigation studied the relationship between family functioning and selfconcept of the sixth grade primary students of Network 8 Callao. The sample was made of 274 students selected at random. We used the scale of Adaptation and Family Cohesion III to evaluate family functioning, and the self-concept questionnaire to evaluate self-concept. We used frequency distribution for the descriptive analysis and Chi² for the inferential analysis. The variable Family Functioning was evaluated in its two dimensions: cohesion and adaptability associating the levels of both dimensions with the levels of self-concept dimensions. The results show that there is a relation between cohesion dimension and self-concept: familiar, social acceptance, self evaluation and self control. They also show that there is no relation regarding physical self-concept. The adaptability dimension there was not related to any dimensions.

To achieve the study it took a sample of 152 students in the third grade of secondary education, whose ages range between 14 and 17. The research is descriptive, with a correlational design. The questionnaire of the phase III by Olson (1985) was used as an instrument and adapted to our reality for purposes of research. The main results show that there is a relationship between family functioning and school performance, so do the dimensions of family cohesion, and the dimension of adaptability. In conclusion, family functioning is related to school performance.

The research was developed under a descriptive correlational design. The sample was comprised of 150 students between 12 and 16 years. The inventory of self-esteem of Coopersmith (1979) adapted by Ariana Llerena (1995) was applied to the data collection and the scale family Social climate of Moos (1984) adapted by Ruiz and war (1993). The results of this research show low correlation between the family social climate and variable self-esteem. It is concluded that the family social climate that show students in an educational institution in the District of Ventanilla is partially influencing the self-esteem of students.
