- PublicaciónSólo datosAsociación entre horas laboradas diariamente y presencia de síntomas depresivos en médicos residentes de Perú(Elsevier Doyma, 2019-04) Alva Díaz, Carlos; Nieto Gutiérrez, Wendy; Taype Rondán, Álvaro; Timaná-Ruiz, Raúl; Herrera Añazco, Percy; Jumpa-Armas, David; Escobedo Palzae, SeimerIntroduction: Resident physicians who work more hours a day are prone to suffer mental health problems such as depression, a subject that has been little studied. In this regard, the aim of this study was to determine the prevalence of depressive symptoms and to evaluate the association between the number of daily working hours and depressive symptoms in Peruvian residents. Methods: Analytical cross-sectional study that used the database of the National Survey for Resident Physicians-2016, a voluntary survey issued virtually by the National Council of Medical Residency of Peru to physicians who were undertaking their residency in Peru. The presence of depressive symptoms was considered as having obtained a score ≥3 with the Patient Health Questionnaire-2 scale. The number of hours worked each day was collected through a direct question. To assess the association of interest, prevalence ratios (PR) and their 95% confidence intervals (95% CI) were calculated using crude and adjusted Poisson regressions with robust variance. Results: The responses of 953 residents (41.3% women, mean age: 32.5 years) were evaluated, 14.6% of which presented depressive symptoms. In the adjusted analysis, it was found that the prevalence of depressive symptoms increased for each additional hour worked (PR = 1.11; 95% CI, 1.04-1.17).
- PublicaciónSólo datosAssociation between depressive symptoms and adherence to highly active antiretroviral therapy in HIV-positive women is dependent of menopausal status: a secondary analysis from a Peruvian series(Elsevier Inc., 2019-06) Arriola Montenegro, José; Cutimanco Pacheco, Victor; Zeta Solis, Ludwing; Niño García, Roberto; Rodríguez Morales, Alfonso; Chedraui, Peter; Mezones Holguin, EdwardThe adherence to highly active antiretroviral therapy (HAART) is key to the therapeutic success of HIV patients and associated to depressive symptoms (DS) in several studies. However, there are few publications regarding mid-aged women; a period in which the menopausal status could play an important role.
- PublicaciónAcceso abiertoPsychological factors and alcohol use in problematic mobile phone use in the Spanish population(Frontiers Research Foundation, 2017-02) De-Sola, José; Talledo Flores, Oscar Hernán; Rubio, Gabriel; Rodríguez de Fonseca, FernandoThis research aims to study the existing relationships among the factors of state anxiety, depression, impulsivity, and alcohol consumption regarding problematic mobile phone use, as assessed by the Mobile Phone Problem Use Scale. The study was conducted among 1,126 participants recruited among the general Spanish population, aged 16–65 years, by assessing the predictive value of these variables regarding this problematic use. Initially tobacco use was also considered being subsequently refused because of the low internal consistency of the scale used. In general terms, the results show that this problematic use is mainly related to state anxiety and impulsivity, through the dimensions of Positive and Negative Urgency. Considering its predictive value, multiple regression analysis reveals that state anxiety, positive and negative urgency, and alcohol consumption may predict problematic mobile phone use, ruling out the influence of depression.
- PublicaciónSólo datosSexual dysfunction was associated to depressed mood in mid-aged women from Paraguay(Elsevier B.V., 2019-06) Sánchez Zarza, Sandra; Mezones Holguin, Edward; Soto Becerra, Percy; Pérez López, Faustino R.; Gavilanes, Antonio W.D.; Chedraui, PeterReports indicate that depressive symptoms may affect sexuality of mid-aged women and vice versa sexual problems tend to aggravate depression. Despite this, information addressing this association drawn from mid-aged Paraguayan women is scarce. This was a cross-sectional study in which sexually active women from Asunción (Paraguay, aged 40 to 60 years) were surveyed with the 6 ítem Female sexual Function Index (FSFI-6), the 10-ítem Center for Epidemiological Studies Depression Scale (CESD-10) and a general questionnaire containing personal and partner data.
